FACEBOOK STUDY

I know it sounds a little “clickbaity,” but a new study is out saying that 59% of the links you share on social media never get clicked. The study, from computer scientists at Columbia University and the French National Institute goes on to say that most people share news stories without actually reading the article. A co-author for the study goes on to say that “this is typical of modern information consumption. People form an opinion based on a summary, or a summary of summaries, without making the effort to go deeper.”

 

What’s worse is that these “blind shares” determine what news gets circulated and what falls off the radar. You can read more about the study here, but hopefully this will make you delve a little deeper into some of the stories you see being shared online. After all, you shouldn’t trust everything you read on the internet! Except for this study of course…
