Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Ottawa, Kanata, Orleans, Richmond and Metcalfe for most of the week ahead.

Lasting through until Thursday, temperatures are expected to span anywhere between 29 C to 31 C, with the humidex bringing temperatures closer to 38 C and 40 C.

Here are a few hacks that could help you keep cool.

Watch Frozen with the kids

Crank the AC… eat some ice cream and imagine you are out in the snow with Anna and Elsa. In this heat wave we DO NOT like warm hugs.. Sorry Olaf.

Paint With Ice

Stick with the “Frozen” theme with a fun craft project that is really COOL.

Put your sheets in the freezer.

Pardon? Yup… its a thing. Put your sheets (or even just your fitted sheet or top sheet) in the freezer and then right before going to bed, take them out of the freezer and put them on the bed.

The sheets dont stay cool for too long but long enough for you to get some zzzzzzs.

Make a Sponge Necklace

Not only will it keep you cool but it will give the kids something to do.

Drink All The Water

In this summer heat it’s important to start hydrating right away.

Keep a water bottle close by and re-fill as soon as it empties.

You can add electrolyte-replacing drink drops to add to your water and choose to snack on fresh fruits that are rich in water, like berries, watermelon, peaches, and nectarines.

It might be TMI.. but one way to gauge your hydration level is to look at the color of your urine. If you’re well-hydrated, it should be pale. Also, you’ll be urinating more frequently.
