Luke Combs ‘Wanted to Crawl Into a Hole’ After Tracy Chapman Pointed Out His ‘Fast Car’ Cover Mistake Luke Combs admitted to flubbing the lyrics of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” during a recent concert, revealing that he had recorded the song with incorrect lyrics.  Chapman graciously corrected him, leading Combs to sing the original lyrics during the performance. The lyric, “We gotta make a decision,” Combs recorded as “Still gotta make a decision.”

“That was the first time that I knew that I recorded the song incorrectly,” he told the crowd. “It was her telling me that. Because I remember, when she said that, I wanted to crawl into a hole,” Combs told a recent audience.

Combs’ cover of the 1988 track became a fan favorite, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning a Grammy nomination.  Chapman expressed gratitude for the song’s continued popularity and praised Combs for his success.
