Here’s a little something to help with those Christmas dinner debates that happen every year. And trust me, this one’s a doozy! What’s the difference between mandarin oranges and clementines? And where do tangerines fit in to the whole equation??

Well first off, you got it all wrong. They’re ALL mandarin oranges. Clementines and tangerines are types of mandarin oranges, which are described as being a little flatter on both ends, and easy to peel with a mild flavour.

With clementines and tangerines being the main types of mandarin oranges found in stores, how can you be sure which type you’re buying? Clementines are the smallest of the mandarin family and have a smooth, glossy, deep orange peel. Tangerines are lighter in colour and have a tartness to them.

One of the beautiful things about tangerines, especially the Dancy tangerine, is the fact that they contain a natural decongestant, synephrine. Makes them perfect if you’re spending the majority of your holidays sniffling and blowing your nose!
